WHAT IS A MAMMOGRAM?

A mammogram is an X-ray image of the breast, routinely taken to screen for early signs of breast cancer. A mammogram can detect a tumor up to three years before it can be felt, thus making it an invaluable tool for doctors to use.

HOW IS A MAMMOGRAM TAKEN?

Patients stand in front of an X-ray machine and will place their breasts on a clear plastic plate. Another plate will firmly press your breast from above to flatten the breast and hold it still while the X-ray is being taken.
